“have a clear vision, have a clear path… Really be clear about where you are trying to get from point A to point B. Be really clear about what service you want to provide. The clearer you are the clearer your message will be to your potential customers, whoever is going to buy. If it gets fuzzy and you can’t describe your business in a couple of sentences you will have a hard time selling it to somebody else”…[Listen for More]

“overall, my best advice is to go and seek help. Don’t assume that you can do it all yourself. Don’t assume that there is someone else who has already solved that problem. Be hungrily seeking out other people who have potentially solved that problem already and get their advice. And model your approach to solving that problem after there’s. Not necessarily rip it off entirely because it might not work but be willing to seek it out, be humble and even be willing to invest. A lot of the times the people who are the best at solving specific problems they aren’t just going to give you you because you sent them a text message or hit them up for a coffee. Sometimes it will but a lot of the times you have to pay for that help…”…[Listen for More]

“Don’t stop. I think people stop to soon, I think they get closer than they think they are but most of the time the reason they stop is because they do not have their financial house in order… Your personal finances are just as important as business finances and are you able to continue. Usually, your personal finances is what stop you from continuing. And so, if you are beginning get your financial house in order but don’t stop. And if you are advanced, I would say don’t stop innovating, don’t rest on your laurels, don’t think nothing is going to ever change ”…[Listen for More]

“find something that you are passionate about, something that energises you on the worst of days and something that you can energise others with your vision and mission. On the worst of days, you have got to find that. The essence of a start-up is about decision-making under ambiguity. So, hire people who make decisions under ambiguous circumstances. “when you start in business you should start by writing out a plan knowing every part of that plan is going to change. I do think some people jump into being an entrepreneur before they are ready or they put some concrete ideas together. So, I don’t want to stop them from doing it but it’s really important… If I can give you a structure to write out ideas around profitability, around growth, around the people that you someday might want to have and around how to stay productive. I think that’s really important. And then what I had said earlier, you have got to talk to similar businesses, similar business models and learn from their mistakes”…[Listen for More]

They are going to get naysayers, they are going to get people close and not so close wondering why they are doing it, challenging them, perhaps being negative. “if you own a business my strong advice is from day one work hard to not be the business. What I mean by that is to not have any functional role in the business at all. To really be able to sit back and work on your business from a much higher level. And I say it for a couple of reasons: 1) I think it will be a lot more gratifying when you don’t have to be involved in any particular functions unless you decide you want dip your toes in the water. 2) You will create the highest value for your business when you are not involved in it. And the third one because this is my business. There is a date on the calendar that most people look to sell their businesses. That date may be of your choosing but it may not be of your choosing. And when it’s not of your choosing it’s usually not under good circumstances like you’ve got a partnership breakup, a divorce, you’ve been diagnosed with an illness. But if you have been running your business so that it is self-managed that date won’t matter because your business can continue to operate and function because it hasn’t been reliant on you and it will maintain value, your people will be okay, your legacy will be okay. So, I think all entrepreneurs who own businesses should work very hard at creating a self-managing business”…[Listen for More]
