Carol-Ann Carrington is an immigrant from the beautiful island of Barbados. She pursued a Bachelor of Science with concentration in Accounting from Jersey City State College. As an accountant, she worked in several industries including investment, entertainment, and health care. During a transitional period in her corporate life, she pursued her M.S. at John Jay College of Criminal Justice to supplement her accountant degree and expand her knowledge of fraud. In 2018, she came up with her food product and decided to go to culinary school. Colorful Eats became Carol-Ann’s passion in 2018 when a sale of her corporate employer provided an opportunity to pursue entrepreneurship. She was juicing carrots when her son asked for pancakes; Carol-Ann suggested that he should drink some of the carrot juice which he politely declined. Simultaneously a light bulb went off! She blended some of the carrot juice into the pancake mix. Her son ate the carrot pancakes and politely asked for more. That became her pursuit to bring colorful, vegetable and fruit-based pancake mixes to market. Approximately two years later, she launched Kickerfeast. Kickerfeast mix offers a healthier, delicious alternative to plain pancakes. This premium mix is made with simple, wholesome ingredients, giving you natural color and uncompromising flavor. Whether you want pancakes or waffles, the Kickerfeast mix is simple to use: Just add water! Enjoy the flavors and colors of Blueberry, Beet, Carrot, and Pumpkin.

“I think that you should spend a lot of time understanding what it is that you want. Why are you being an entrepreneur? Why are you building this thing? Give that a lot of thought… Being the next Amazon is not the only way to build an amazing company, create a great lifestyle and generate yourself a lot of net wealth. So, you really want to understand and be true to yourself because every decision you make as you start building out your team from your cofounders to your investors are going to basically set the stage for the direction but that company has to go. You can’t go and raise 5,000,000 dollars of venture capital money and then decide after-the-fact that you changed your business model…”…[Listen for More]

Guess that there will be three times the amount of money that you are going to need. You’ve got to spreadsheet, triple it right now. You can always give the money back. Get more money. Plan to need 10 times the endurance and the persistence that you think it will take because entrepreneurship is not easy. If it was everybody would be successful at it. “find your tribe of other entrepreneurs to spend time with and to commiserate with and listen to. Rory F Stern just might be the only digital marketing and advertising expert you’ve ever met who also has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. His initial goals were to use that training and become a behavioral profiler with the FBI. However, that all changed when he found himself in the position of being a stay-at-home Dad to his then 6-month old daughter. Despite his best efforts, being a stay-at-home Dad wasn’t enough and he still felt a calling to serve others and impact the world. That led to his discovery of digital marketing. For 8-years, Dr. Stern was a very sophisticated jack of all trades who worked for the paycheck. The underlying passion was missing until he discovered media buying. His freelance work led him to a position within a fast-growing Facebook ad agency as a copywriter. This was before Facebook ad agencies “were on every corner.” Here he was tasked with learning how to write ad copy that ultimately beat the existing controls. Not being a classically trained copywriter, and really just a high-performer, he never realized just what it meant to his skill set when he was able to beat the control 90% of the time. After a few different roles, Dr. Stern started RFS Digital Media, LLC in 2016. What started out as a one-man show grew to a point where the business had 8 campaign managers and a team that was managing roughly $8.25 million dollars in ad spend on Facebook by 2018. RFS Digital Media’s clients have included one of the largest direct response financial publishers in the world, many well-known (and not so well-known) supplement companies, e-commerce brands, experts and more.

“work on your fear of judgement… You are not going to be able to please everyone, not everyone is going to be your biggest fan and you are really not making it until you have haters… When you put yourself out there a lot sometimes you are going to get people who aren’t jamming with it and that’s fine. Just like you don’t jam with everybody’s message either. So, I just really encourage you to step out of that because your vision is bigger than that, your vision is important and you are not serving anyone by holding back. So, don’t hold back, go for it, get your message out there, get visible and just know that your people will find you through that. And the people that don’t need to work with you don’t matter in that instance. “find something that you are passionate about… Any career somebody gets in for any business that somebody builds it can’t just be about I am just going to do this because it seems like a good business to make money and make a living. You have to be passionate about it… It has to be something that’s inside of you that you eat, live and breathe in that when you wake up in the morning you are excited to do it, and you have a hard time going to sleep because you can’t wait until the next day to do it again. “’one of the first things you need to do in order to succeed at anything new is to get over the advice everyone gives you that it can’t be done’ I’m butchering it in terms of the letter of the quote but the spirit of the quote is exactly that… You have to believe in what you are doing. If you don’t believe in it probably didn’t even start. But if you are not a believer you properly don’t want to be in this business, you properly don’t want to be in the business of starting things. And you do have to even after you have sort of planted your foot and said okay, I am doing this then you have to whether all of the criticism that is going to be levelled at you because now you have put your hat in the ring, you have made your bet, you are now a target for criticism in a way that you are not when you are just considering doing something or talking about it… The criticisms don’t end. “I would say it is for things. 1) get clear on what it is that you want. 2) be good at what you do which is a little bit more nuanced than simply being good. It means that includes yes being good at whatever the thing is that you do. But also, that includes having integrity, being where you say you are going to be, doing what you say you are going to do. Then you have to be 3) be nice to everybody because you never know how relationships are going develop over time. “being an entrepreneur is a bumpy journey and even when it looks like things are down things are probably much higher than you realise they are. What I’ve experienced in my entrepreneurial journey is that most entrepreneurs go through waves of success. Meaning that they start out they have success and they go up and then there is a temporary setback before they enter the next wave of success. And its often times in that setback where you feel like things are not working and you are not going that well and begin to really doubt yourself or you really begin to have uncertainty. In that uncertainty and in that doubt, I would almost say I’ve talked to entrepreneurs who said I’m just going to stop, I’m just going to quit. And what they don’t realise is how far they’ve come. And then they make the next level up and they get some relief and then they go through that again. It cycles over and over and over again. But every single setback setting the journey for the next wave higher. And each time you reach another setback I have also found that most entrepreneurs are much more successful than they were the last setback. And so they don’t realise the setback what it is which is why the setback is your setup for your next opportunity”…[Listen for More]
