“if you have a full-time career and you are a closet entrepreneur keep your day job and start now fleshing out your dream. Create a vision board, construct a business plan, prepare a pro forma budget, decide if you indeed have an idea that can parlay into both financial and professional awards, don’t change away from a career until you know you are ready. If you have a support system that allows you to take a chance then make sure that is solid. The last thing anyone needs is a failure after they have had a long career. The adjustment is not going to a full-time workplace takes getting used to, be ready for change and when the juice is worth the squeeze make some juice”…[Listen for More]

“stop and plan. If you have any big ideas, if you want to implement something new, maybe you have found a new system that you want to add in… Stop and sit and plan out what this would look like. That includes due dates, that includes time, money, resources, people, really putting that down into paper before making the steps to make it happen. It will save you so much time and money in the future to sit down and plan your big ideas or different systems or things you want to implement into your business”…[Listen for More]

“the best advice to an aspiring entrepreneur would be to build your entrepreneurial venture before you rely on it to be your sole income… You need to build the boat before you step off the dock onto it. The folks who are already in their entrepreneurial venture never be willing to rest upon your success. There is always a way to do it better. And when to stop because nobody wants what you have. And I can’t tell you when that is… But sometimes you have just got to stop because you are going to waste years of your life and other times you keep doing it. One clue will be if you love it. “Keep out the noise, the naysayers. Many people are afraid of taking a new risk, developing a new idea or product because they are worried about what people think. They are going to get naysayers, they are going to get people close and not so close wondering why they are doing it, challenging them, perhaps being negative. “if you own a business my strong advice is from day one work hard to not be the business. What I mean by that is to not have any functional role in the business at all. To really be able to sit back and work on your business from a much higher level. And I say it for a couple of reasons: 1) I think it will be a lot more gratifying when you don’t have to be involved in any particular functions unless you decide you want dip your toes in the water. 2) You will create the highest value for your business when you are not involved in it. And the third one because this is my business. There is a date on the calendar that most people look to sell their businesses. That date may be of your choosing but it may not be of your choosing. And when it’s not of your choosing it’s usually not under good circumstances like you’ve got a partnership breakup, a divorce, you’ve been diagnosed with an illness. But if you have been running your business so that it is self-managed that date won’t matter because your business can continue to operate and function because it hasn’t been reliant on you and it will maintain value, your people will be okay, your legacy will be okay. So, I think all entrepreneurs who own businesses should work very hard at creating a self-managing business”…[Listen for More]

Carol-Ann Carrington is an immigrant from the beautiful island of Barbados. She pursued a Bachelor of Science with concentration in Accounting from Jersey City State College. As an accountant, she worked in several industries including investment, entertainment, and health care. During a transitional period in her corporate life, she pursued her M.S. at John Jay College of Criminal Justice to supplement her accountant degree and expand her knowledge of fraud. In 2018, she came up with her food product and decided to go to culinary school. Colorful Eats became Carol-Ann’s passion in 2018 when a sale of her corporate employer provided an opportunity to pursue entrepreneurship. She was juicing carrots when her son asked for pancakes; Carol-Ann suggested that he should drink some of the carrot juice which he politely declined. Simultaneously a light bulb went off! She blended some of the carrot juice into the pancake mix. Her son ate the carrot pancakes and politely asked for more. That became her pursuit to bring colorful, vegetable and fruit-based pancake mixes to market. Approximately two years later, she launched Kickerfeast. Kickerfeast mix offers a healthier, delicious alternative to plain pancakes. This premium mix is made with simple, wholesome ingredients, giving you natural color and uncompromising flavor. Whether you want pancakes or waffles, the Kickerfeast mix is simple to use: Just add water! Enjoy the flavors and colors of Blueberry, Beet, Carrot, and Pumpkin.
