“1) marry the problem not the solution. Spend your time validating the problem, spend your time learning the problem, spend your time with customers about the problem not your solution and the solution will come out of that. 2) work with people who share your values and that you can trust in the long run. The rest won’t work without that”…[Listen for More]

“continue to do the things that scare you because ultimately those are the things that are going to cause the growth… The one thing that you need for success is to never give up, to never stop and to never get complacent with your growth because every single day if you are continuing to work on yourself the only thing you can do is grow. So, taking one step forward every single day and doing one or two or three actions every single day that is going to move your business forward or your personal development forward. Jared Pope is the CEO and founder of Work Shield. While practicing law focused on human resources, ERISA, benefits, and employment matters, Jared realized industry-standard practices and the "system" for managing workplace harassment and discrimination were broken. Despite using outside reporting platforms, internal incident investigations meant employees were not reporting incidents due to fear of retaliation, and employers were not protecting their culture or themselves from the risk of legal action. Always ready for a challenge, Jared decided to make the system better, where voices are truly heard and incidents have a clear path to resolution. Jared created Work Shield - the first and only start-to-finish workplace harassment and discrimination solution and technology platform that gives employees a real voice, protects and ensures a safe workplace culture, and removes employer liability - all at the same time

“trust your gut and if you believe in yourself you have got to trust your gut. I assume any entrepreneur doesn’t start company because they don’t believe in themselves it’s because they do and you have to remember you have an idea and it’s okay that if it doesn’t work let the market tell you what’s good about it, what’s wrong about it, how do you need to tweak it, what’s the next iteration. But trust your gut. And no one is going to know your product better than you… And you can learn more from other people and adapt it to your knowledge but there is this intuitiveness of a gut check. And trust your gut, go with your gut and bet on yourself”…[Listen for More]

James Jacobson has founded several companies and is a serial entrepreneur whose career has primarily been focused in the media arena since graduating from the University of Virginia in 1988. Currently James is building Dog Podcast Network. In the past several years, James has been putting his attention on a promising cancer therapeutic company he co-founded with Dr. Demian Dressler in 2008 called Functional Nutriments. James Jacobson has been described as both “a serial entrepreneur” and as a “monk in the marketplace.” He has authored best-selling books, been a broadcaster and built businesses that leveraged new trends that were sometimes considered “just a little ahead of their time.” The overarching theme of his career has been building ventures that make a meaningful difference in the lives of as many people as possible. For over 20 years, that took the form of creating projects and companies that leveraged the power of media including teleproduction, radio, publishing and, the Internet. Since 2008, James Jacobson’s focus has been on Functional Nutriments, a biotech company that has developed and brought to market first-in-class nutraceuticals that induce and support apoptosis. Apoptosis is a critical biological life process that is encoded in the DNA; and the absence of normal levels of apoptosis is linked to serious diseases including cancer. Businesses that he developed, founded or helped co-found include a video yearbook company, a teleproduction and video marketing company, a talk radio station, a cable TV network, an e-commerce company, a magazine publisher, a book publisher, and a biotech nutraceutical firm. His author credits include "How to Meditate with Your Dog" and the best-selling series "Top Maui Restaurants" which he co-authored with his wife, Molly Jacobson.

“do what you love, be passionate about what you love and don’t do it for the money. If you love money don’t be an entrepreneur be a salesperson… If you are going to dedicate your life and your blood and your sweat and your tears and your shower time and endanger relationships should be for something that you really, really love. And I think that’s so critical and I think sometimes especially at the beginning of someone’s entrepreneurial journey they are just looking to make the quick buck that usually… I won’t say never… That usually doesn’t work out in the long-term and it certainly doesn’t pay the psychic dividends that will feed you when you come across adverse”…[Listen for More]

“really learn yourself, understand your limitations and understand your strengths… I’m hesitant to tell people to trust your gut. The gut is so important and it’s very important to know when to trust it. And so, the only now you would know when to trust it and when not to trust it is by truly, truly understanding who you are. And there are many different ways you can get there… Now what your limitations are. And sometimes they are very difficult to accept but nonetheless are there. Matt Johnson is a marketing agency founder, podcaster, and musician. “decide as quickly as possible who the right person is that you want to have in your life especially if you are doing client work. One of the best questions I have asked myself was if a client landed in San Diego, got off a plane and texted me and said hey man I just dropped in let me buy you a drink, come out. Who is the person I would want to get that text from that I would want to say yes to?… The faster you figure out who that right person is the faster you can make all those other decisions that I mentioned. Like what’s the one thing I am going to sell to them? How do I become micro in that space to them? You can’t make any of those decisions or take any action there until you make that very first decision. Who is that person that I want to serve and impact, person that I want to teach, train and lead? Who is that person that I want to hang out with? Make that decision as quickly as possible and then you can get busy doing the other stuff”…[Listen for More]

“one, is don’t try to build your vision from day one. I think a lot of people who come into starting a company have the vision and have the passion associated with how they want to grow the company. And what you end up doing is you end up building something from day one that most likely people don’t want”…[Listen for More]

For almost a decade, Annie Passanisi Ruggles has harnessed her Hulk-like disdain for hard-sales, tacky self-promotion, and overly competitive sleazeballs as inspiration to help people find better ways to grow their small businesses. She's guided hundreds of people toward making deeper connections, lasting impressions, and friendlier, more lucrative conversations and transactions.

“you are not a non-profit unless you are a non-profit. If you overly sacrifice yourself through ask avoidance, through loocey goocey the boundaries… through over delivering as a negative. I don’t mean over delivering in a way that we all aspire to with customer service. I mean really over delivering and not demanding what you earn, what you deserve, what you are entitled to, what you are worth then you are going to allow other people to slow the rate of your business for their own gain and you will keep yourself small. Do not do that. If you are an entrepreneur you are a business, show up like a business, treat yourself like a business, respect yourself like a business”…[Listen for More]

But the one thing that every entrepreneur should be focused on is you have to be different; you can’t be doing the same thing that your competitors do, you have to be unique and you have to become the only one.
