“take a lot of risks in a calculated manner. In other words, have conviction so it’s again keeping two opposing ideas in your head. One of them is having conviction and the other one is not being fully committed to an idea until it’s proven itself. So, the solution to that, to have those two opposing ideas in your head simultaneously is to take risks. Meaning look this is a project, this is an idea, I’ve researched it for a couple of weeks or whatever a month. I think it’s worth a try and then you have enough conviction to actually try it. So that’s the risk you are taking however that risk has to be balanced with progress. And if you have launched and if you have tried it and you are not making progress you have to reassess”…[Listen for More]

Our guest today led some of the biggest global mergers in the finance, tech, and oil industries, and went on to become one of Silicon Valley’s top business advisors. Tom Eddington is founder of Eddington Advisory Services and an expert in the field of conscious leadership. Welcome, Tom. What is conscious leadership and how can it help leaders of America’s top companies and organizations?

“constantly be reminded or remember that at the end of their life, whenever that’s going to be, that they look back and be proud of the life that they’ve led. Not just the job they did all the company they created or how many employees that they had or how many hundreds of thousands or millions or billions of dollars that they’ve earned but to truly look at their legacy. Not that you want to linger on that or allow it to drive your life to a large extent but never lose sight of your legacy, never lose sight of having fun, never lose sight of recognising that we are all human beings and we make conscious and unconscious choices each morning about how we are going to show up in the world. Being really intentional about what you are doing and why you are doing it”…[Listen for More]

“hire right and take the time. Because a bad hire, I’ve learned the hard way, it sets you back more than it puts you forward. In the beginning I hired my friends and family because I could trust them and I believe that that was the best fit. But looking back I probably would have gone about things differently. I would have hired people with more experience in that field and we would be in a different atmosphere right now had we have done that but I did was comfortable and I had to learn the hard way”…[Listen for More]

“Seek honest feedback, really ask for and then embrace the feedback you get. Whether that’s determining whether a new product should go to market, whether it’s deciding whether to hire, fire, promote someone within your organisation. Get feedback and listen to it. And I guess the trump card to that is ask people around you what you are missing, what your blind spots are, because you have got them and as long as you ignore them, they will be there to torture you. So, ask for feedback about yourself. What I missing is one of my favourite questions because you can see it I can’t”…[Listen for More]

“it kind of comes back to that hedgehog principle. I like to advise people to really challenge themselves on their ideas long before they try to start anything. And I think you should be your harshest critic so that by the time you go to other people you are very confident in asking the tough questions and in answering the tough questions. And I do find that that trio of questions, that hedgehog principle about whether it’s defensible, about whether your idea can make money and about whether you have the passion and drive to go with distance are very useful”…[Listen for More]

Silent Beacon founder and CEO Kenny Kelley started his entrepreneurial career as a thrill-seeking Hollywood motorcycle stuntman and founder of Adrenaline Crew LLC, producing wildly popular videos and leading teams of daredevil riders in risky on-road hijinx that captured an enthusiastic worldwide audience both online and at high-profile events. When Kelley made a mistake on his motorcycle — while popping a wheelie, with his feet out over the windshield, going 70 mph on a public interstate — the resulting crash sent both his body and his life careening in a new direction. The idea for a wearable emergency-button device came to him as he was lying incapacitated on the side of the road. Kelley’s near-death-inspired appreciation of safety’s importance led him to form Silent Beacon LLC and create the namesake Bluetooth® wearable device that can contact any number, including 911, with a single button push. Kelley’s entrepreneurial life has gone from wowing crowds to protecting them, and he now lives for creating products that help people lead safer lives.

“you really just need to put your head down and dive into it and make it an obsession. If you have an idea and it’s not an obsession and you just think of it as oh geez, I don’t have time to look that up, oh geez I don’t have time to make this, oh geez that… Then that’s the wrong idea for you. You need to wait until you have an idea that sparks this fire that Neil and I were talking about, this obsession that just makes you want to fight through everything to see it succeed. So you just need to find what works for you that you can spit as you speak and it just comes out as poetry”…[Listen for More]

“remember the formula FFF. And that is when you have an idea don’t go directly to execution. The formula for fortune that’s a formula for failure. And the formula for success FFS is when you have an idea is put in the discipline of thinking about what product or service you have, your idea that people respond to and see how they respond to the price and service and listen carefully. And then make pivots, make your adjustments, test it, nail it then scale it, and then launch your product. Once you have real confidence in what you have done its you start out with a rifle shot on your testing, and once you got your formula down then use the canon and then execute…. Don’t go directly from idea to execution. Go from idea to doing a few things of due diligence then execute”…[Listen for More]
