Phil Strazzulla is a finance nerd turned entrepreneur. Phil started investing in the stock market when he was 12, but set his sights on starting a company after an internship at a two person company during college. After graduating from NYU, Phil began his career working in venture capital at Bessemer Venture Partners before getting his MBA at Harvard Business School. He's a self taught programmer who has started two bootstrapped technology companies. He now spends most of his time working on SelectSoftware, a site dedicated to providing in depth and unbiased reviews of business software. Outside of work, Phil is working on his yoga poses, meditation practice, sous vide skills, and golf swing. When not enjoying the many benefits of working from home, you can find him traveling around the world to escape his arch nemesis, the dreaded Boston weather.

“understand bias, understand your own bias and understand other people’s bias especially when you are starting off… People take their experiences and kind of regurgitate them as advice to you and it’s not always the most relevant stuff. And what can be really hard especially when you are starting off is that these people are very credentialled and somebody may be sold their company for a hundred million dollars or $1 billion or they took it public and they are telling you a thing and they just don’t have the perspective to understand that that’s actually not relevant for your business or could be bad advice. And so, understanding other folks bias is super, super hard to do however very, very impactful. And of course, you have to understand your own bias. Are you cheap? Are you liberal with your money? Are you somebody who kind of swings for the fences? Are you overly analytical question? All these things have to be reined in because all of your strengths that you should supercharge can also be things that can lead to your detriment. And so, try to be introspective, try to have advisers who will tell you to your face how you are thinking, correctly or incorrectly”…[Listen for More]

“I want them to think about the industry they intend to move into. I think planning, not forever, but planning for a period of time is a very sensible approach… think about your industry very carefully. Do you want to be selling 3.95 lattes, because I would get bored of that… So think about your price point , think about the structure of the industry. That’s why I’m not so keen on service-based industries because I almost see them as replacement rat race industries whereas an asset based industry you put the money into it, you buy the assets, it then cycles round itself with people pushing the cycle. And then I would definitely say get a coach ”…[Listen for More]

Victor Green was born in London, England, and from a very young age, he always wanted to know how business worked and how to do everything himself. He was able to assess things quickly and knew what needed to be done in business situations. Because of this, he could spot opportunities and move faster than others. Victor had business smarts and the ability to make quick decisions. His energy, and inquisitive nature, made him look at many business opportunities, some of which he tried before he eventually became his own boss. Ideas such as: opening a deli, importing cuff links from the USA, silk ties from Italy, importing Sangria from Spain. His first full-time business venture was starting a publishing company. From this he went on to start many other businesses, such as organizing conventions, printing, advertising, direct mail, PR, photography, import and export, manufacturing, soccer clubs, website design, creating portal websites, real estate, finance company, business consulting, mentoring and lecturing on business matters. His business experience also covers selling and acquiring businesses, helping company start-ups and revitalizing failing businesses.

“take your time. Don’t be in a hurry to be a failure. Slow down and be a success. Don’t run, run, run, run, run and think oh this is great I have got to do it tomorrow; I have got to do it tomorrow. It’s worth taking the extra time, if it’s a month, six months or a year to get it right. What you have to realise is that if you make a mistake then that factor could cripple you for the rest of your life. You could end up with debts which you have to pay off so your life is virtually ruined because of this. So please, please, please take your time, do your research and when you’ve done it in, do it again and if needy do it again to make sure that you are not being biased in your mind wanting… What is your USP, what is your unique selling point, what will make you better and different to what’s on the market? That’s what it’s all about. Then people say if I buy from them, I get ABC but I also get E and F because that’s a little bit more, that’s what it’s about”…[Listen for More]

*(please note, the company name is own-your-voice, many who read my bio are inclined to say Own-Your-Own-Voice, which is incorrect. I sincerely appreciate if you would take a moment to practice simply saying own-your-voice. Many thanks!) Sahar Paz didn't grow up playing house, she played office. At the age of 13, she launched a baby and pet sitting company generating more cash flow than all the lemonade stands in the neighborhood! A natural leader with an active left-and-right brain, Sahar was 25 years old in New York City with a lucrative career in Finance and bored out of her mind. Inspired to share what she learned in business, she pivoted and dedicated herself to feeding the entrepreneurial voice of teenagers by founding Free Your Star Foundation. The nonprofit partnered with low-income high schools in Brooklyn with credit-earning programs written by Sahar herself. Championing the voice of others to help them understand their emotional intelligence and their personal drivers has always been Sahar’s mission. Her book, Find Your Voice part-memoir, part cognitive behaviour guide, epitomizes that pursuit. Published in 2014, her message gained attention within forward-thinking organizations such as HBO, Facebook, Whole Foods, and the Texas Medical Center, where Sahar was invited to deliver keynote presentations. After five years on the road, Sahar became the CEO of Own-Your-Voice Strategy Firm, a personal branding agency that focuses on placing professional on stages to speak. Today, she resides in Houston and has given up pet sitting to play with her dog Rico instead. Please help me welcome today's speaker, Sahar Paz!
