“put aside other people’s expectations of what your entrepreneurial journey would look like. And I think one of those expectations is that when you start and have an entrepreneurial life that you are working 24/7. And I think especially as an entrepreneur you need to make sure that you take time away from your business because it’s with that time away that you come back with a fresh perspective. Both energy but also ideas and a lot of blind spots go away. So, it’s that ability to make sure that your journey as an entrepreneur is true to what you believe and not falling into that trap of all this is what entrepreneurs do”…[Listen for More]

“just think about all of the resources that you have at your disposal right now compared to the people that have done it 10, 15, 20 years ago. And think about how much easier it is, how many less barriers to entry that there is now compared to the people that you look up to had to do it back way in the heyday. They literally had to innovate so much just to get started. There is so many leaner ways to do entrepreneurship that’s accessible now that there really is just no excuse for not doing it”…[Listen for More]

Andri Benson has always loved to draw and knows it has helped her in dreaming up fresh and innovative designs for her wedding couples. Having worked as a creative wedding planner for the last decade, she is now bringing her artistic skills to the fore, by helping couples see for themselves that anything is possible. They really can go from dream concept to reality for their special days. Not only does she provide them with incredibly detailed and bespoke concept illustrations of how their weddings will look; but with a background in theatre design, she’s able to turn them into reality, using her skills. She finds drawing is her favourite past-time too and will often spend her evenings, curled up on the sofa sketching. Her husband of 19 years is hugely supportive and embraces her creativity. At six feet three inches, he towers above Andri’s petite four feet 11 frame. She even drives in heels so she can reach the pedals, because they had to buy a car big enough for him too! It’s the strength of her own marriage that also helps Andri understand the expectations that couples have as they embark on planning their special days. Those couples turn to her because of her creative background. She spent seven years in her previous career curating costumes at the BBC Costume and Wigs store, having completed a degree in Theatre Design at Nottingham Trent University and a foundation course at the prestigious Central St Martin’s College, London. But it’s her artistry and show-stopping designs that are really getting Andri talked about. And fellow wedding planners are now approaching her, so she can provide sketches for their happy couples too. There’s something quite magical in being able to turn dreams on paper into a reality.

“everyone always says it’s about knowing how to do your job and the experience you have but I think it’s more than that. I think you really need to believe in yourself, I think being a business owner is as much about your mindset is your experience. It’s all very well being the best person to do something but if you don’t actually believe in yourself you can do it or believe in yourself enough to put yourself out there I think that can really hamper you as a business owner. Believing yourself you can do it you got to really work on that mindset as well as your experience and gaining that knowledge and that will really help you in business”…[Listen for More]

I really do believe you need to start recording yourself and watch the playbacks. Give yourself a real close look at how people experience you because you can have the best product, if you can’t communicate it in a way that people can’t understand it, if you can’t communicate in a way that people trust you and you make them feel like they are connected and engaged with you through your delivery does it really matter how great your products are? It still comes down to the experience people have with you. Using timeless principles she has successfully created and led change management and continuous improvement programs for teams as small as 5 up to business units of 1500+. Jenny takes what she learned in excelling in sports to help entrepreneurs and business leaders lead their teams through crisis and change. To stop the constant fire fighting, high stress and high emotion, ‘running around like headless chickens’ feeling in their teams, businesses and personal lives. Instead, she helps them gain calm and control for their teams, businesses and personal lives, by taking those core sporting principles and applying them to business.

“realise that systems set you free and that there are a lot of misconceptions around systems and processes and systemising businesses. People think that you are going to need hundreds of systems to systemised the business. You don’t. People are going to think systems remove creativity in your business but they don’t. People think that they need to be the ones that build the systems but they don’t. People think that they need to systemised like McDonald’s but they don’t. There is a lot of misconceptions around systemisation. So, my best advice is to re-look into the idea of systems and processes because they do set you free and they unlock the ability for you to grow a business that works without you. It is a critical skill that you want to master ”…[Listen for More]

“number one add value through your strengths. So find what you are really really good at and start to give it to the world, to your customers, to your employees. Learn how to receive through your weaknesses. So learn what you are not good at or what you are may be not great at and start to ask others, whether it’s other companies that can help you or employees or even customers and then serve through your fears. The greatest way especially through this time of uncertainty, a lot of us are in a place living in fear and uncertainty and the way to get out of that, because you can’t be rational or objective when you are in a place of fear, the way to get out of that is to serve through your fears. “failing or making a mistake does not identify you. And in fact, one of the things that we are taught it’s a primary principle or a message that we get as children that if you make 50 percent of anything wrong that you are a failure and you are criticised. And in fact, if you have made 50 percent wrong you have made 50 percent right in the real world, that means you are a billionaire that you have had tremendous impact. to be able to think about our thinking. To think about how we think about things is incredibly important, it makes us an observer. Usually we end up being very reptilian or just very primal, we just react and we were emotional. Using a different part of our brain to think about how we are thinking about things puts us into a different plane where we are actually able to have more impact and have more calm and just a better life if we are willing to think about those things. So like the mistake piece if we think about how we process that over the years it may put is in a place where we are able to be more free from the mistakes and grow faster”…[Listen for More]

“entrepreneurs don’t know what they don’t know. And if you want to engage an adviser that’s an interpretive adviser… I love the word solidarity… Solidarity is when you walk in solidarity with somebody you are walking with them through life’s journey. And you want to find advisers that are walking through life’s journey with you and that are willing to be there with you and to know intimately your business and how you are operating and how you want to operate, what your vision is and help you deliver that. So, I think it’s important to find that adviser that’s not giving advice from a silo, that they have a broad understanding… A broad and pretty deep understanding of how to integrate that tax, financial and investment strategy because again it’s not what you earn in the market, it’s what you keep after taxes that’s important”…[Listen for More]

From leaving school at the age of 17 until starting her own business at the age of 30, Moira Doherty had a total of 27 jobs. From being an air stewardess to a sales rep, nothing seemed to hold her attention for long enough. When she reached her forties, Moira realised she had become disillusioned with life. A new chapter in southern Spain beckoned, and for ten years, she lived her dream, having built a stunning home on a hillside, overlooking Grenada. Whilst there, she was approached by the parents of a groom to be, who asked if she could help plan their son’s wedding. Moira immediately fell in love with wedding planning, and at the age of 50 began Perfect Spanish Weddings, which is now a six-figure business, which she still runs successfully today. But far from her story ending there, Moira knew there was something else missing; a purpose that needed her attention. As a 62-year-old serial entrepreneur, she’s now shining the light on women aged 45 and over, who feel they have nothing left to offer. She wants them to know anything is possible, and her success later in life, shows what can be achieved.
