Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Philip Catudal is a globe-trotting, food and language loving, serial entrepreneur. He is a Cancer survivor; a top MBA degree Honor’s graduate; a NASM-CPT Hollywood Celebrity Trainer; and, most important of all to him, a proud father of three.

“Start right now. That doesn’t mean go and quit your day job and give everything up today. If you are in a place to do that then great… someone once gave me another great piece of advice, they said what you do in your spare time when you are not at your job, that is a great indicator of who you are and how badly you want something… every single day you should be doing something for that. So maybe register the .com domain, register the LLC, maybe spend 20 minutes doing this on your spare time when you’re not working… just do it… it doesn’t mean all or nothing I guess you could start small and do something every day towards your goal and it is going to happen quicker than you realise”…[Listen for More]

“get some knowledge in a lot of things as opposed to mastering one thing. You need to have the mastery but you also need to understand legal implications, you need to understand some accounting, you need to understand some finance… learn human interactions, human traits, understand people, body language, don’t forego that, I think by far this is the most important thing, Is to understand how to relate to certain people even though their style is different to yours. Just be successful with people and I think everything else will fall into place and you need to technically understand the rest. But people is what is going to get you through passages in life and is going to make you fall if you don’t understand people. So I think this is by far the most important for entrepreneurs”…[Listen for More]

“my best advice and what helped me personally the most was to reach out to others who are successful doing what you want to do and ask for their advice… I can’t recommend it enough. I would absolutely say go out and find who are the biggest players in your industry who are super successful doing what it is you want to do and what you want to build. And go to them. And more often than not they are going to take the time to share with you what has worked and hasn’t worked and their resources – I couldn’t have done it without them”…[Listen for More]

“funding was hard when I first started. The biggest problem was to make that jump with so little money because you are always unsure, you are always chasing to make sure that you will get in the deals done because you have got bills to pay and it is all on you. And when you bring in more staff in you need to make sure that everything is moving in the right way. So that was one of the difficulties I had to overcome. And to have the confidence in myself to be able to take that step to getting on my journey I am on now.”…[Listen for More]

“doing your own business can completely take over your life, it can take over your weekends, your evenings because when you are starting off especially you are just doing everything. So my advice is to make self-care your absolute number one priority, do not let that fall to the wayside at all. So if you have a practice of maybe some kind of body movement like exercise or yoga, whatever don’t stop doing it. Or if it is meditation do not stop doing that. Or maybe it’s socialising and getting together with friends every once in a while. Make it a priority. Each part of your day and even week needs to be about self-care; take care of your emotional self and your body, your physical self”…[Listen for More]

Michele Scism a serial entrepreneur who knows how it feels to fail miserably at business, at one time the bank actually called demanding their $1.5 million back, and also knows how it feels to sign the contract to sell her company for $9 million dollars.

“My best advice is to make the decision. Whatever it is that you are trying to figure out and you have been just beating yourself up over it or maybe I should try it but you can’t seem to get yourself commit to it, you need to walk through that process of making a decision, a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. It could be ‘no’ right. I do make quick decisions. It is who I am I am very decisive. And I don’t always make the right decisions but when I don’t make the right decision I go an make my wrong decision right. Meaning I go and do whatever I have to do to fix it. But here is the thing because I had made a decision I wasn’t wasting all of that time thinking about it and wondering about it – and why and how. Right. Guys you have to make decisions and just move forward.”…[Listen for More]

“so for entrepreneurs they need to create a vision overall for their life…they then need to break down that vision into smaller achievable steps. And I always say that baby steps add up. And on top of that get outside. Sell it first and figure it out later… what I learned later is it makes more sense to actually offer it up for sale, sketch it out, map it out, decide what it’s going to look like, get clear on the outcomes, on the deliverables, and then put it out there and sell it with a delivery date. And give yourself enough time for when you stop selling it to when you deliver it to actually produce the product…[Listen for More]

“my best advice is do what you do with integrity. Be real, tell the truth, do what works not what you think is going to look good. If the truth is that what you are doing is not worth much then don’t charge much for it. If the truth is that what you are doing is worth a fortune then find a way to respectfully get the value that you are worth. In other words, raise prices, charge what you are worth and package yourself appropriately… truth is at the core of everything… The truth will set you free… that’s true and that’s what an entrepreneur needs. An entrepreneur needs feedback. It’s like in Bill Gates’s book ‘Business at the speed of thought’ he said bad news must travel fast. Well absolutely because as a business owner if there is bad news about my business I want to know it right now before it is too late to do anything about it”…[Listen for More]

“be smart but at the same time believe that it is possible. We live in a world, this hasn’t always been true whenever you look at the history of mankind, but today for most people in developed countries, and in certain instances even in developing economies, we live in a world where we can make our own rules, we live in a day and age where the resources on the opportunities are so widespread that even people who come from nothing can really create a life that they want. “don’t just chase the money like you are ‘supposed to’. Don’t forget to chase the experience. There is nothing wrong with a lifestyle business…So I would challenge your listeners to do a ‘would you rather’ type of game. So in 10 years would you rather have done well in your business, say 10 million dollars in the bank but you totally had to slug through it, you had to work you 100 hour weeks, you missed you kids games, you gained some weight, you got some high blood pressure but you got 10 million dollars or would you rather have a life style business?”…[Listen for More]

“my best advice to other entrepreneurs is it is really important to love what you’re doing, and it doesn’t mean that you are going to love every moment of it or every single day but on average in my experience it is really important to believe and to know that there is some way that you are either making the world a better place or that you are working for something bigger than just the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow so to speak. Because in the long arc of a career, particularly as an entrepreneur even doing multiple different things I believe you have got to have it be about something bigger than just the money. And so my advice would be make sure that the thing that you choose is something that you are committed to, that you would be willing to stick with it longer than what you think because chances are you have an optimistic bias, as I know I have, and things likely do take longer than you thought they would originally”…[Listen for More]

Having been an entrepreneur for 30 years, Tom Jackobs has been through a few challenges. He's definitely had more failures than successes, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He sold my fitness business which I owned for 9 years a year ago to start teaching other entrepreneurs how to use story to sell. He also quickly realized that most small business owners don’t follow up with their leads, so he started teaching them how to create follow up system so they could have a conversation to share their story and make more sales. With his degree in theatre he is able to help his clients create a performance out of their presentations so it’s not the same boring presentation audiences are unfortunately used to seeing. He's been a contributor to CBS Radio in Houston, a guest on Great Day Houston, Univision, Fox 26 News and The CW Houston. He's also a presenter at the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Houston.
